Retail Workplace Injuries are on the Rise - Hardy Lean Solutions offers Lifting Solutions

In the past few years, there has been a weird phenomenon. Even though a majority of industries are reporting lower injury rates year over year, or at bare minimum small increases, the retail sector is seeing a stark increase yearly.

In the years 2017 and 2018 the private industry sector increased from 89.4 injuries per 10,000 workers, to 89.7 injuries per 10,000 workers (injuries resulting in missed days of work). That increase is minimal in a sample size that large. But, the retail industry jumped from an average of 101.4 injuries per 10,000 workers, to 107.6 injuries per 10,000 workers. That is a whopping 6.11% year of year increase in the retail sector, with only a slight 0.34% increase in the rest of private industry.

The majority of injuries we see reported in the retail sector that have caused missed days of work involve; sprains, strains, and tears. In 2018 38.4 workers per 10,000 missed days of work due to this specific injury. Another 16.1 workers per 10,000 reported missed days of work due to soreness and pain. Many of these reported injuries can be caused by lifting and moving heavy objects, this is where Hardy Lean Solutions steps in.
